AMM Celebrates 20th Anniversary as an Amalgamated Life Affiliate

In 1990, Amalgamated Life acquired a small utilization management operation located in Salem, New Hampshire that was providing services to its members. Claire Levitt, who has led the organization during its 20-year tenure as an Amalgamated Life affiliate, recalls:

“When we first acquired the operation, only eight staff worked at the office. They had no copy or fax machines. In fact, staff ran down to the corner store to make copies at 5 cents apiece. One of our first tasks was to install a copier and a fax machine to bring the operation into the 20th century. It is amazing to think how far we have come.”

The rest, as they say, is history. Today, AMM is one of the premier care management organizations in the United States with a national footprint and is supported by hundreds of clinicians. Over the past two decades, AMM has diversified from an organization just focusing on UM authorizations to a 24/7/365 full-service, care management organization. AMM operates from three locations and can support clients in all 50 states with its broad range of products. AMM now employs over 100 staff members, many of whom are nurses, and is also supported by an independent review panel of 250 physicians. Its products and services have earned four URAC accreditations.

Throughout the years, AMM consistently has led the way with innovative medical management practices such as providing an integrated care management platform that can be customized or private-labeled for each client. AMM utilizes a wide range of population management strategies, including UM, case management, disease management, nurse triage, and prevention programs. AMM also uses one of the most advanced medical management technology platforms available today to support its dynamic operations.

AMM’s dynamic formula has led to a solid track record of generating positive clinical and financial outcomes for clients and patients. As an affiliate of Amalgamated Life, AMM will continue to draw upon the resources of its parent company to help serve its clients. But, since it also remains a standalone and unique operation, AMM will continue to provide the personal touch to each client and the members that it serves for the next 20 years and into the future with customized and targeted services.
